The Dplus Office, located in Guangzhou, China, was created by designers Pei Fuxing and Xie Zhengtao. The project, which spanned from August 2017 to January 2018, aimed to provide a better working environment to alleviate work pressure. The designers' inspiration stemmed from the desire to create a pleasant atmosphere that would make even overtime work enjoyable.
The office's unique properties lie in its bold space division and integration of volumes, arrays, and changeable designs. The space is divided into three main areas: a public area, an active area, and a quiet area. This division reflects the diversity and integrity of working functions, infusing vitality into the space. The designers capitalized on the two large pillars from the original structure, turning potential obstacles into design opportunities.
The realization of the Dplus Office involved innovative design techniques. For instance, the designers decorated an entire wall with diamond-shaped wood veneer, creating a design highlight. The manager's office features light-colored furniture and creamy white wall surfaces, creating a sophisticated space. The original building's concave area was transformed into a comfortable sofa rest area, further enhancing the office's unique design.
The Dplus Office provides a free working experience by integrating different types of offices. The design includes a few, carefully designed embellishments that add a fresh breath to the space. The office also features a long wooden table where people can freely converse under starlight, creating a peaceful space that transcends the real world.
The Dplus Office design faced several challenges. The design had to accommodate a small staff while providing a variety of different-sized conference rooms, including a space for 50-80 people for multi-functional training. The office reception area required noise separation to maintain a professional image while ensuring a smooth visit for customers. Despite these challenges, the design successfully created a flexible working pattern for cross-functional teams, enabling the workspace to adapt to changing needs.
The Dplus Office has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, creativity, and innovation. The Dplus Office, with its unique symbol and fresh approach to workspace design, truly embodies these qualities.
